Liliya Sholomey (born in Bashtanka, Ukraine) is a People’s Artist of Moldova (2018) and a renowned opera and chamber singer, soprano coloratura lirico, teacher, and public figure. She has performed in nearly 20 countries of the world, including Germany, Norway, France, Spain (Sala Mozart), Portugal, the United Kingdom (Royal Albert Hall), China (Shanghai Conservatory), Switzerland, etc. Since 2020 Liliya has been teaching at Polyakov School of Arts. Liliya received training in opera singing at the National Academy of Music «G.Muzicescu» in the class of Svetlana Strezeva, who is an Honoured Artist of Moldova. Svetlana herself was a student of Polina Botezat, who also trained Maria Biesu, Moldova’s most recognized opera singer.

Professor Strezeva did a two-year internship at La Scala under the guidance of GiuliettaSimionato. After that, she shined on the world stage, notably as Tsaritsa of Shemakha in Bolshoi Theatre’s rendition of Rimsky-Korsakov’s «The Golden Cockerel» (conductor — maestro Yevgeny Svetlanov). Liliya herself was a participant in the masterclasses of Irina Arhipova and Mariana Nicolesco (MET, La Scala). During the first year of her bachelor's studies Liliya began touring Poland and Romania. Two years later she made a stunning debut at Moldova National Opera Ballet as Oscar in Verdi’s «Un Ballo in Maschera». Towards the end of her studies, she partook in tours of the Academy’s violin ensemble around Spain.

In the time of her master’s studies in the class of Vladimir Dragos, People’s Artist of Moldova and National Opera’s leading baritone, Liliya Sholomey was invited to be a member of the principal cast of Moldova’s Opera. In 2002/2003 Liliya received a DAAD scholarship to intern at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig to study under Prof. Jitka Kovařikova–Richter.

Liliya actively collaborates with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of the Republic of Moldova, the National Television and Radio Orchestra, and the National Chamber Organ Hall Orchestra, as well as with the Military and Presidential Orchestras. The singer always represents Moldova at the highest governmental and international levels, most notably having performed at the European Parliament in Strasbourg during the official visit of Vladimir Voronin, the second President of Moldova. In 2000 Liliya Sholomey won the Grand Prix and the Golden Cup at the 18th April Spring Friendship Art Festival in Pyongyang, North Korea. The same year the singer performed at the centennial of the Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet together with soloists of the Odesa Opera, Mariinsky Theatre, Bolshoi Theatre, etc. The name of the artist was introduced in a number of dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.

An important part of the singer’s artistic biography is her collaboration with the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Cooperation of the CIS. In 2011 Liliya successfully covered for a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre in Kyrgyzstan, having performed a 17-piece solo concert at the Kyrgyz National Maldybaev Opera. In 2012 the same foundation invited the Moldavian soprano to perform the part of Gilda in Verdi’s «Rigoletto» at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. Azerbaijanian reviewers compared the mastery of the performer to such a famous Russian soprano Albina Shagimuratova, who earlier had performed on the same stage. Lilia has collaborated with such wonderful conductors as Evgeniy Kolobov, Robert Luther, USA  (Staatsopera Wien, Mariinskiy, Russia); Iurie Florea, Principal Dirigent  (Opera Bucarest ); Dumitru Goia, Principal Dirigent  (Opera Bucarest); Alexandru Samuil,

(Principal Conductor at Opera Antalya, Turkey / Odessa, the National Theatre of Ukraine).  Andriy Yurkevych (Principal Conductor of National Theatre of Republic of Moldova, from September 2014 – Principal Conductor of Warsaw National Opera Theatre), Daniel Rene Pacitti (Italy-Argentina), Friedrich Pfeiffer (Austria), Anne Randine Overby (Norway), Cristian Florea (Germany, Spain, Romania), Nicolae Dohotaru, Gheorghe Mustea (Moldova), Myhailo Dutchak (Lviv, Ukraina), Igor Yaroshenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and other.
