Within the framework of the Year of Germany in Russia, the international online platform Classic@Home, together with the SchlossAkademie Music Academy under the patronage of the Goethe-Institut, are carrying out the "Music Bridge" project. The project was conceived in order to give music students and classical music lovers the opportunity to get acquainted with the German system of higher music education and initiate an international exchange of experience.

As part of the "Music Bridge" project, we invite students and young musicians to become spectators of free master classes by leading German teachers.

Jens Peter Maintz:

Prof. Jens Peter Maintz studied with David Geringas and attended master classes by Heinrich Schiff, Boris Pergamenshikov, and Siegfried Palm. He won first prize at the Munich Competition in 1994. In 1995 he became principal cellist of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. He became professor of cello at the University of the Arts in Berlin in 2004. Jens Peter is also a member of the Trio Fontenay.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Jens Peter Maintz has given concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Poland, Spain South America, and the United States. He has worked with conductors Gerd Albrecht, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Herbert Blomstedt, Dennis Russel Davies, Marek Janowski, Bobby McFerrin, and Franz Welser-Möst, with the Artemis Quartett, the Carmina Quartet, and the Minguet Quartet and with soloists Kolja Blacher, Isabelle Faust, Janine Jansen, Wolfram Christ, Antoine Tamestit, Isabelle Faust, David Geringas, and Julian Rachlin.
Mr. Maintz has performed works by Witold Lutoslawski, Isang Yun, Jan Müller-Wieland, and Georg Friedrich Haas. In December 2003 Mr. Maintz was soloist for the first German performance of Richard Danielpour’s Cello Concerto No. 1 at the Berlin Philharmonie. At Claudio Abbado’s invitation, he has been the principal cellist of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra since 2006. In the 2006–2007 season he performed the Schumann cello concerto with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin under Marek Janowski and the Brahms double concerto with Arabella Steinbacher.
His first CD with Sony Classical was awarded the Echo prize. He has also recorded the Isang Yun cello concerto with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin for Capriccio.
